West Canada Lakes

Jess

We were happy to have a short 6 mile day to West Canada Lake. We arrived early and had plenty of time to swim and relax on the rocks that dot the shore. This spot always makes us happy. Hot chocolate – with the Baileys we had managed to smuggle in our packs – made a nice end to the day.

I began to hatch a plan as we settled in for the evening. Since I clearly wasn’t feeling the thru-hike this year, we’d hike to Cedar Lake and spend one more night there. The next day we’d hike to Wakely Dam, give my folks a ring, and cross our fingers that they’d deposit us in Long Lake, skipping the ascent over Blue Mountain. From there, we’d either continue the trail or spend the week road tripping and car camping. Jess seemed like she was game for this idea, I’m lucky she is so laid back.

Tonight was one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever witnessed in the Adirondacks. It was a perfect day, the loons were playing and calling out, and the sun just slowly fell behind the mountains. Each passing moment seemed to highlight this already amazing scenery in a new splash of color.
